Kate Bush invites 52 visual artists to create ‘Running Up That Hill’ work to benefit War Child

October 14, 2025 2 Mins Read

Kate Bush has invited 52 visual artists to create work inspired by her seminal hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ to benefit War Child.

For this year’s Sound & Vision fundraiser, an annual auction held by War Child, art pieces must be inspired by an iconic Kate Bush lyric. The fundraiser will coincide with the 40th anniversary of ‘Running Up That Hill’ and its album, ‘Hounds of Love’.

The lyric, which Bush handpicked from the viral Stranger Things song, is: “If I only could, I’d make a deal with God”. Maggi Hambling CBE, Peter Doig, Charlie Calder-Potts and Corbin Shaw are among the 52 participating artists.

Speaking about the fundraiser, Bush said: “All wars leave horrific scars; ruined lives, families ripped apart, life-changing injuries, trauma, and loss on a massive scale – but it’s the children who suffer the most in so many ways. Their past, present and future melt away into fear and uncertainty.

“It is more important than ever we support War Child and their invaluable work providing immediate aid to children caught in conflict all over the world including in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, and Syria. Projects like Sound & Vision harness the power of art and music to make a real difference to children living through war. Thank you for supporting this project.”

The art pieces will be exhibited at Iconic Images Gallery from 4-8 November, which will be followed by an online auction from October 28 – November 13. All bids will start at £100 at Givergy.

Last September, Bush announced that she would be releasing ‘The Best Of The Other Sides’ after massive fan demand. The release has already landed digitally (September 26) and will arrive later on CD and vinyl on October 31 via Fish People.

‘The Best Of The Other Sides’ was released for those who couldn’t access the original version of the 2018 compilation album ‘The Other Sides’, composed of B-tracks and unreleased songs.

Elsewhere, the iconic singer announced the release of a self-directed animated short film called Little Shrew earlier this summer.
