Wales Artists’ Book Fair to return to Newtown in September

September 1, 2025 2 Mins Read

Now in its third year, the fair will run over the weekend of September 6 and 7 at Hafan yr Afon and will feature a variety of demonstrations and workshops.

This year’s event will also coincide with the Newtown Food Festival, offering visitors a packed schedule of activities.

Artists’ books, the centrepiece of the fair, are unique creations made by artists.

These can range from hand-crafted and small press publications to items made from fabric, sculpture, printed, drawn, or stitched.

The fair provides a platform for book artists from Wales, the borders, and beyond to showcase their work.

It also aims to introduce more people to book art, encouraging them to engage with the creative process and explore the myriad possibilities it offers.

The event will be held in the spacious and accessible upstairs area of Hafan yr Afon, a community centre on the banks of the River Severn.

The venue is next to the Oriel Davies Gallery, which will host additional workshops.

The fair will focus on individual artists, groups, and small publishers who create high-quality artists’ books using printmaking, textile, or paper-based techniques.

Visitors will have the chance to view and purchase a wide range of works.

The list of participating artists for 2025 includes 51 Personae, Art and Danniella, Best Books by Bernard and Anwyl, Eira Richards, Erin Hughes, Evgesha Doomskaya, Heather Prescott, Jennifer Banfield, Kelpie Press, Maja Spasova, Marches Book Arts Group, Not Supposed to Know Art, Quince Press, Rock-Tree-Landscape, SU4IP, Tanja Bolenz, Wits End Books, Wild Bird of the Ink, Wrexham School of Art and Zine Library, and Zaima Ahmed.

The Newtown Food Festival, which will take place around the town hall grounds next to Hafan yr Afon, is expected to draw a large crowd, further boosting the book fair’s attendance.

The festival will feature a variety of food stalls, offering something for every palate.
