Pritam Defends Blackpink’s Jennie Amid Plagiarism Scandal: Rather Than Tearing Artists Down…

Pritam Defends Blackpink’s Jennie Amid Plagiarism Scandal: Rather Than Tearing Artists Down…

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and allegations of plagiarism involving the theme song of Rani aka Alia Bhatt in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, music composer of the track – Pritam has stepped forward to defend the K-pop star.

Pritam defends Jennie

The plagiarism debate ignited online after fans noticed similarities between Rani’s theme song and Jennie’s latest track. However, Pritam has urged people to support artists rather than pit them against each other.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Pritam dismissed the plagiarism claims, making it clear that minor similarities in music are common. He wrote, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen—whether through rhymes, phrasing, or even within the same genre.”

The composer further explained that the music industry is deeply interconnected, and rather than focusing on minor resemblances, audiences should appreciate the larger creative process. He added, “Instead of focusing on tiny details, it’s important to see the bigger picture. In today’s interconnected world, where artists share the same platforms, no one is deliberately trying to copy someone else’s work. Creating a song takes immense effort, and if an artist truly resonates with an idea, they can simply collaborate.”

Pritam concluded his statement bysaying it is unfair to tear down artists. He said, “Music is about creativity, unique artistic perspective, influence, and sometimes pure coincidence—especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength. Rather than tearing artists down, celebrating their work makes far more sense. Wishing Jennie all the best for her new album!”

What is the controversy about?

The plagiarism allegations started with Jennie posting a teaser of her song, which Bollywood fans noticed was strikingly similar to Rani’s intro. This led to a fan war on X between BLINKS and Alia Bhatt fans, with both groups supporting their artist.
