SoundCloud’s new feature spotlights artists’ first and top fans

February 24, 2025 One Min Read

SoundCloud has been leaning in to the superfans trend for several years now. Its latest feature builds on that by shining a spotlight on these music listeners.

It’s called ‘Fan Recognition‘ and takes the form of a module on artists’ track pages on SoundCloud’s website.

The module shows a pair of charts. ‘First Fans’ are the listeners who played and liked the track early, ranked by their first-week streams. ‘Top Fans’ are the listeners who have played the track most overall, ranked by their lifetime streams of it.

Only fans older than 18 who have liked a track and followed the artist will be featured in these modules – and they also need a username, profile picture and verified email address. They can also opt out of appearing in these modules if they want to.

“This is just the beginning of how SoundCloud is making fan engagement more meaningful,” promised the company’s blog post, hinting at more superfan-focused features to come.
