Les Roberts Advocates for Greater Art Accessibility in Miami
Director of Miami Fine Art Gallery Calls for Community Support to Make Art Inclusive and Impactful
MIAMI, FL / ACCESS Newswire / February 20, 2025 / Les Roberts, esteemed director of Miami Fine Art Gallery, is championing a vital cause: making art more accessible to all. Roberts, who has led the gallery since 2008, is raising awareness about the transformative power of art and the need for broader community support to break down barriers to cultural engagement.
“Art has the unique ability to connect us, challenge us, and inspire us,” Roberts said. “Yet, for many, it feels out of reach. That’s something we need to change.”
Roberts’ advocacy centers on initiatives to bring art into underserved communities. According to a 2022 study by the National Endowment for the Arts, only 20% of lower-income households engage with the arts annually, compared to 50% of higher-income households. These disparities reflect a need for more inclusive efforts to make art a shared experience.
To address this, Roberts is urging local leaders, businesses, and art enthusiasts to invest in programs that increase access. Miami Fine Art Gallery has already started by hosting free public exhibitions and workshops. One recent event brought together over 500 participants, many experiencing fine art for the first time.
“The look on a child’s face when they see a Picasso up close is unforgettable,” Roberts shared. “It’s moments like these that remind us why this work matters.”
Roberts is also advocating for arts education in schools. Studies from Americans for the Arts reveal that students engaged in the arts are five times more likely to graduate and four times more likely to succeed in academic subjects. However, budget cuts have left many Miami schools without art programs, limiting opportunities for young minds to explore creativity.
“Our future artists and leaders are in these classrooms,” Roberts emphasized. “Investing in arts education is investing in our shared future.”
Roberts believes collaboration is key to creating meaningful change. He’s calling on community members to support local galleries, donate to art organizations, and volunteer for programs that bring art to new audiences.
“Art belongs to everyone,” Roberts said. “By working together, we can ensure it’s not just seen, but truly experienced by all.”
Through his advocacy, Les Roberts is transforming Miami’s art scene into a more inclusive space, proving that art can be a powerful tool for connection and growth.
