Diverse voices: A celebration of neurodivergent art

Hyderabad: Showcasing the creations of neurodivergent artists from across India, the Salar Jung Museum, in collaboration with Art Sanctuary, concluded its week-long exhibition titled ‘Diverse Voices: Art Beyond Boundaries’ on Sunday. Curated by Daira Centre for Arts and Culture founder-director Atiya Amjad, the exhibition featured the artwork of 43 neurodivergent artists. It was inaugurated last Saturday by governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
The exhibition featured 98 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs, all created by artists with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. These works stood out for their vibrant colours, intricate details, and perspectives, showcasing the artists’ technique and creative patience.
“We are thrilled with the public response,” said event organiser Shalini Gupta. “The exhibition aimed to provide a platform for neurodivergent artists to showcase their talent and creativity. It’s heartening to see that two paintings were sold during the exhibition, and we hope this encourages more people to appreciate and support the work of these talented individuals.”
Parent of a neurodivergent child herself, Gupta added, “It was incredible to witness the impact of this exhibition on both the artists and the visitors. The artworks have the power to change perceptions and break stereotypes surrounding neurodivergence.”
The curator of the exhibition, Atiya Amjad, also emphasised the importance of such events in fostering inclusivity and understanding. “Art has the ability to transcend boundaries and connect people from all walks of life. This exhibition has not only provided a space for neurodivergent artists to express themselves but also educated the public on the challenges and triumphs of living with neurodevelopmental disorders,” she said.
