Fine art transport company says sorry for bashing over tree

A FINE art transportation company lorry has accidentally knocked down a tree in Gospel Oak.

Resident Roger Harrabin said it was “such a shame” to see the 30ft-tall lime tree lying on the ground in Courthope Road last Friday lunchtime.

He said: “It’s a bloody big tree to come down in the street. It’s lucky it came down the way it did, half in the road half in the pavement but it could have easily landed on the house.  We’ve been here for more than 30 years and that tree has been here the whole time.

“The trees on the street are really nice. And it’s a shame.”

The lorry that felled the mighty lime belonged to Cadogan Tate, a company that “move, store, and care for the world’s most precious items, from priceless family heirlooms to one-of-a-kind museum pieces”.

A spokesperson from Cadogan Tate said: “We fully understand the impact this has caused and take full responsibility.“Please rest assured that we are in contact today with the local council and are actively working to replace the tree as soon as possible.

“We are committed to resolving this matter swiftly and ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to prevent such incidents happening in the future.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to the residents.”
