voco St David’s Cardiff showcases local artist’s work

August 29, 2024 2 Mins Read

Cardiff’s five-star hotel, voco St David’s, is giving an emerging contemporary artist the chance to showcase their work to guests and the community.

The Cardiff Bay-based hotel is displaying a new private collection of work from contemporary Welsh artist Caitlin Flood-Molyneux in its restaurant and bar, Tir a Môr.

Based in Aberdare, Flood-Molyneux has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally and has recently shown work at Christie’s and Sotheby’s Auction House in London.

Now with a permanent collection in Cardiff thanks to the hotel, the exhibition reflects Caitlin’s connection to Wales, with paintings that depict places she grew up in, such as the council estate from their childhood. This blend of personal history and artistic expression creates a rich tapestry of memories and emotions, which is both personal and relatable.

General Manager of voco St David’s Cardiff, Konstantin Grimm, says:

“We are delighted to offer a platform for Caitlin to showcase their exceptional work. By bringing their deeply personal and evocative art into our restaurant and bar, Tir a Môr, we’re not only enhancing the guest experience but also celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Wales. It’s an honour to support local talent and provide a space where both our guests and the community can connect with the stories and emotions reflected in their paintings.”

Caitlin Flood-Molyneux, says:

“Having my work displayed at voco St David’s Cardiff is a wonderful opportunity to share my personal journey and connection to Wales with a wider audience. The paintings in this collection hold deep significance for me, as they depict the places and memories that have shaped who I am. I’m excited to see how guests and the local community resonate with the stories within my art.”

This is the latest initiative from the five-star hotel to support its local community. The hotel, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, also sponsors Pride Cymru and raises money for local charities including Cardiff Dog’s Home and Keep Wales Tidy.
