Fine Arts Team & Lyric to Produce Summer ‘Hairspray’
For the first time, our district will offer an FCPS Summer Musical Theatre Intensive as the Fine Arts Department works with the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center to offer a full-scale production of “Hairspray.”
“This aligns with the Lyric’s mission to celebrate cultural diversity and community engagement and will be a wonderful opportunity for students throughout the district to come together for the first time to learn and perform this show,” said Katherine Lowther, Fine Arts director. In addition, participating students will learn about the Civil Rights movement from guest artists, which will provide meaning and understanding through context and study.
The free workshop runs July 8-26, with performances July 26-28. It’s for rising 9th through 12th grade students and 2024 graduates of Fayette County Public Schools.
Interested students should register by Friday, April 26:
Auditions will be at Tates Creek High School on Monday, May 6, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Callbacks will be Monday, May 13.
FCPS staff interested in teaching during this summer fine arts program should sign up by Wednesday, April 24. Opportunities include music director and/or pit conductor, technical theater instructor, choreographer, and production stage manager.
