Bemidji Middle School announces fine arts students of the month
Bemidji Middle School recently announced Jeffrey Roscoe, Kiera Strodtman, Danika Birt, Lili Hill, Jillian Haugen, Griffin Senefelder and Maren Eickman as fine arts students of the month.
Jeffrey Roscoe is the art room fine art student of the month for his hard work. He is in sixth grade and his favorite thing to work with is Legos. He believes it is important to create because it’s fun making things with his hands. His favorite part is seeing the transformation from beginning to end and seeing the final product. “You can picture something in your brain and see it come to life, and that’s a cool feeling,” he said.
The fine arts students of the month for choir are eighth-graders Kiera Strodtman, Danika Birt and Lili Hill. They decided to join choir because they love to sing, and wanted to make new friends. Birt’s sister also inspired her to join choir. In choir, the girls enjoy doing different activities, games, making new friends and learning the songs. In the future, all three students intend to sing in the high school choir. Strodtman also takes voice lessons, Birt plays in band and Hill performs in the community theater and learns instruments for fun. These students have all been double day choir for the past two years and are all deserving of this recognition.
Eighth-grader Jillian Haugen is the band student of the month. She is one of the hardest-working musicians in the program and is always demanding more from herself. She is a very involved student in not only band but other activities and sports as well, including speech, jazz ensemble, nordic skiing and 4-H. The goals that Haugen has for herself in the music world are to join high school jazz ensemble and possibly be a part of the show choir band.
The fine arts student of the month for art workshop is sixth-grader Griffin Senefelder. He says that it’s important to keep making things with our hands in this digital age because it’s better than robots making things. He likes making things by hand because he enjoys taking time and making something special. His favorite thing to make is fishing lures. Senefelder recently received third place in one of the Junior Divisions for spearing decoys in The National Decoy Carving Competition (The Gathering) in Perham.
Maren Eickman is the fine arts student of the month for orchestra. She plays violin in the eighth-grade orchestra. She really enjoys the fiddle style of music because it is fun to listen to and play. She enjoys playing new and challenging music in orchestra as well as being able to play music with her friends. Her future goals are to learn how to play the circle of fifths, learn to play by ear and improve in general. Eickman was chosen because she is a team player who is always helping her peers to better their playing skills, while she always does her best and strives to improve her own skills.
