A 7th-grade student from Santa Barbara Catholic School was recognized for her artwork during the 2025 Fo Guang Shan Festival of Light and Peace Lantern Painting Award Ceremony on Feb. 2 at the Fo Guang Shan Headquarters in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The school shared Amanda D. Salomon’s achievement in a release.
She was among the talented artists recognized during the ceremony and represented Fo Guang Shan Guam. She received the Honorable Mention Award for her work, the school said.
This year’s competition attracted 2,655 entries from participants worldwide, all striving to reflect the core values of Fo Guang Shan’s teachings.
The competition promotes the “Three Acts of Goodness” (Speak good words, Do good deeds, Think good thoughts) and the “Four Givings” (Give convenience, Give confidence, Give joy, Give hope). Through vibrant and meaningful brushstrokes, artists conveyed messages of kindness, unity, and positivity, spreading blessings to communities near and far.
Her achievement was celebrated in a special recognition ceremony on Feb. 16 at Fo Guang Shan Guam.
During the event BLIA Guam President John Shen formally presented Salomon with her certificate and award, acknowledging her artistic excellence and dedication.
In attendance were her teacher, Cyra, along with her proud family, who supported her throughout her creative journey.
Salomon’s artistic contribution exemplifies the power of creativity in promoting peace and goodwill. Her recognition at the Fo Guang Shan Festival of Light and Peace is a testament to the growing artistic talent within Guam’s community and the impact of art in fostering cultural and moral values, Santa Barbara Catholic school said.
The school said residents can check out more artwork by students during an upcoming art gallery in March at Guam Premier Outlets.
