Sanrio’s New Artwork Turns Hello Kitty, My Melody & More Into Rose of Versailles Characters
Sanrio‘s beloved Hello Kitty and Friends have gained numerous official crossovers since their inception, with just some of the most recent being Jujutsu Kaisen, Hatsune Miku, Junji Ito’s horror story Tomie and even the Care Bears. Now, a brand-new crossover has been introduced with Riyoko Ikeda’s landmark shojo franchise, The Rose of Versailles.
The new crossover between Sanrio and Rose of Versailles marks a celebration of the latter’s return to anime, with a new movie on the way by MAPPA, the acclaimed studio behind the likes of Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, Yuri on Ice and Jujutsu Kaisen. With the Rose of Versailles film slated for release sometime in early 2025, the production team recently unveiled artwork in collaboration with Sanrio, featuring the characters Hello Kitty, My Melody, Dear Daniel and Pocchaco reimagined as the main movie cast, as seen below.

Rose of Versailles’ Official Sanrio Crossover Reimagines Oscar, Marie Antoinette & More
Hello Kitty, of course, one of Sanrio’s biggest stars, plays the role of lead Rose of Versailles character Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, aka Lady Oscar — the loyal, hardworking commander of the Royal Guards who chooses to live the life of a man. Dear Daniel, Hello Kitty’s boyfriend, fittingly plays the part of Oscar’s childhood friend and love interest, Andre Grandier. Hello Kitty’s best friend My Melody cosplays as the lively but naïve Marie Antoinette, who Oscar is charged with guarding at Versailles. Finally, Pochacco — the white dog inspired by Snoopy — is dressed as Hans Axel von Fersen, the Swedish count who falls in love with Marie Antoinette.
The Rose of Versailles movie’s official website states that Sanrio collaboration goods will also soon be made available, perhaps modeled after the “stuffed animal style” artwork teased on the site. A specific release date for the merchandise has not yet been announced; however, given Sanrio and especially Hello Kitty’s strong presence not only in Japan but globally, including in the U.S., fans can likely expect these goods to eventually make their way stateside.
