New Ryan Gander artwork now on display at Sainsbury Centre
Ms Modern Classical Conceptualist, or Their Shadows Obscured (Dramaturgical framework for structure and stability) is on display at the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich, in the Living Area gallery.
The installation features a life-sized figure made from stainless steel, brass, aluminium and plastic, inspired by an animator’s moveable armature.
The figure gazes upward at a suspended mobile made from similar components.

Jago Cooper, director of the Sainsbury Centre, said: “What gives us our existence?
“This is the question that swirls around when you stand within the conversation of this art installation.
“If you quickly glance the right way, you might even glimpse the answer.”
The artwork invites viewers to reflect on what it means to be human and how we perceive ourselves and others.
Ryan Gander works across sculpture, film, installation and performance.
His pieces often take the form of puzzles or fragmented narratives.
The Sainsbury Centre, which relaunched in 2023, describes the piece as a meditation on empathy, humility and the nature of power.
