New artwork adds to Leamington’s mural scene
LEAMINGTON’S mural scene continues to grow with a tribute to a Victorian doctor who created an arboretum.
A ten-metre high mural in Tachbrook Street has been produced to represent a woodland created by Dr John Hitchman in a nearby former hospital grounds.
The house where the mural sits is also part of Dr Hitchman’s legacy to the town as it was once a school house he supported.
Work started on the gable end in July, but had to be stalled after one of the artists was stung around the eye by a bee in a nearby nest.
And this is not the first mural to create a stir in the town thanks to Brink Contemporary Arts.
Earlier this year, artists Tim Robottom and Gordon Landsburgh created ‘The Lady of Shrubland Street’ close to their latest completed work.
This Victorian-inspired Art Nouveau-style painting graces the gable-end wall of a terraced house in Shrubland Street.
Brink has now created more than 20 murals in Leamington whic have put the town on the artistic map.
Mr Robottom said the latest work depicted giant redwood trees and was designed to send a message about the importance of trees and green spaces.
The mural project has received the support of The Leamington Society, Plantool and Dulux Leamington.
