‘I Had a Really Good Dream’
Yoshihiro Togashi, the writer and illustrator of Yu Yu Hakusho, returns to the classic Shonen Jump series with a new illustration. Togashi’s latest artwork is another encouraging sign that the creator of Hunter x Hunter is recovering from his physical illness.
Togashi uploaded his new Yu Yu Hakusho artwork to his official social media X (formerly Twitter) account. He captioned the picture with the quote: “I overslept. I had a really good dream.” The artwork depicts Keiko Yukimura at the center as a high school girl with adorable pigtails. At the same time, a giant image of her childhood friend, Yusuke Urameshi, watches over her as a spirit. The headband Yusuke is wearing is commonly associated with the Japanese depiction of the afterlife, as the dead were typically dressed this way in Japan’s Edo period.

Yu Yu Hakusho & Hunter x Hunter’s Yoshihiro Togashi Has Recently Released More New Artwork
As many X users noted in Togashi’s post, the author’s new Yu Yu Hakusho artwork recreates the 1991 Volume 1 cover art. One X user who goes by the name of @/manganouA put the original and latest illustrations of Yu Yu Hakusho together for comparison. This also isn’t the first time Togashi has gotten nostalgic over his own series, as he previously illustrated the issue #3 cover art of Ten de Shōwaru Cupid (An Ill-Tempered Cupid in Heaven). Togashi worked on the four-issue risqué romantic comedy before moving to Yu Yu Hakusho. He also took a crack at the classic PlayStation game series Resident Evil.
The increased online activity by Togashi is another sign that the creator behind the critically acclaimed (but constantly delayed) Hunter x Hunter series is significantly recovering from his chronic back pain. His poor physical state has caused him to put Hunter x Hunter on constant hiatuses, as he cannot sit down and draw and must lie down when illustrating instead. However, in the past few days, Togashi uploaded draft illustrations for a new chapter in the Hunter x Hunter manga.
