Florence Pugh Transforms Into Cammy in Street Fighter Reboot Artwork
Florence Pugh is imagined as Cammy in new fantasy casting for the upcoming Street Fighter reboot.
Previously, it was announced that a new Street Fighter film was in the works, but no cast members have yet been announced. Fans have been debating who might be good choices for certain roles, and the popular digital artist BossLogic has weighed in with new artwork of different actors as Street Fighter characters. Among them is an image of Thunderbolts star Florence Pugh as Cammy, which is getting the approval of many fans.
The TMNT vs. Street Fighter Team Discuss Incorruptible Turtles and the Villains’ Motives
In an exclusive interview with CBR, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Street Fighter team reveal what’s on the horizon for the series.
The other images shared by BossLogic so far include Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) as Chun-Li, Mackenyu (One Piece) as Ryu, and Lucas Till (X-Men franchise) as Ken. All four characters were featured in the original 1994 film, which featured Kylie Minogue as Cammy, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, Byron Mann as Ryu, and Damian Chapa as Ken. Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk would later play Chun-Li in the unconnected 2009 film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
Legendary Entertainment Will Reboot Street Fighter
The Street Fighter reboot film was announced by Legendary in April 2023. It was reported at that time that the film would be co-directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmaking siblings who helmed the hit horror movie Talk to Me. The two later addressed their plans to explore the characters and lore of Street Fighter with their upcoming film.
10 Mistakes That Still Haunt Street Fighter
Street Fighter’s lofty legacy was built on sub-par ports and awkward adaptations.
“We got signed on to develop Street Fighter, which has an amazing lore, characters, and world. But then we have so many original ideas,” Michael told Deadline. His brother, Danny, added, “With Street Fighter, Legendary, [it appears] that they’re going to let us take control and really do our thing with it. It’s very exciting. And so it’s just about negotiating how many cooks are going to be in this kitchen and how much freedom we’re going to have.”
The project getting announced comes as video game adaptations have been becoming more popular and successful than ever. This was evidenced in a big way when The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a tremendous hit at the box office in 2023, resulting in that film getting an upcoming continuation. A Legend of Zelda movie was also announced, and a sequel to Mortal Kombat is also on the way. Given the enduring popularity of the Street Fighter brand, it may have just been a matter of time before another reboot was made.
The Street Fighter reboot doesn’t have a release date at this time.
