Deadpool Creator ‘Enhances’ Ryan Reynolds in One-of-a-Kind Artwork

June 27, 2024 3 Mins Read

Summary

  • Liefeld creates unique art by adding Deadpool mask to Ryan Reynolds’ face on People magazine cover.
  • Final Deadpool comic, “Deadpool Team-Up” series, announced by Liefeld for this summer.
  • Liefeld’s association with Deadpool continues as he adds unique twist to character with Reynolds’ photo.

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld recently created a unique piece of art of his most famous character, humerously “enhancing” a picture of Ryan Reynolds in a way that Wade Wilson would appreciate. This one-of-a-kind piece combines the original artist and the actor who made his character famous in a way like never before.

In a post to Instagram, Rob Liefeld shared a video of himself drawing over the cover of a recent issue of People magazine featuring Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds. Using paint pens and markers, Liefeld successfully halved Reynolds’ face with a Deadpool mask.

This created a classic superhero look, perhaps best exemplified by Steve Ditko in order to visualize the concept of “spider-sense” in the Spider-Man comics. Using an actual photo of Ryan Reynolds to achieve this effect is a fun concept, creating the perfect synthesis between reality and fiction.

While he’s returned to the character periodically, Rob Liefeld recently announced he’ll be drawing his final Deadpool comic this summer with

A Truly One-Of-A-Kind Sketch

The Deadpool movies have made several references to Liefeld, with the artist even getting a cameo role in the first film. Liefeld has had a complex relationship with Deadpool throughout the last twenty years or so, as it wasn’t long after the character first appeared in New Mutants #98 that Liefeld left Marvel with six other top artists to form Image Comics. As such, there weren’t that many pages with Deadpool drawn by his original creator. When Liefeld returned to Marvel in the late ’90, he got the chance to draw Deadpool once more during his brief run on Wolverine.

While he’s returned to the character periodically, Rob Liefeld recently announced he’ll be drawing his final Deadpool comic this summer with Deadpool Team-Up, a five-issue limited series starting in August. This will be the culmination of Liefeld’s recent run of Deadpool books, starting with Bad Blood in 2017 and the sequel Badder Blood in 2023. Liefeld will get the chance to draw many Marvel characters as they team-up with Deadpool, including major heroes like Wolverine and Hulk and lesser-known characters like the long-lost Crystar.

The Merc with a Mouth has become one of the most popular Marvel Comics characters in the world, and Liefeld creating any Deadpool art – even if it is just a doodle on a

cover – will always be noteworthy.

Even if Deadpool Team-Up is truly Rob Liefeld’s swan song, the artist will always be associated with the character. The Merc with a Mouth has become one of the most popular Marvel Comics characters in the world, and Liefeld creating any Deadpool art – even if it is just a doodle on a People Magazine cover – will always be noteworthy. With that in mind, Rob Liefeld taking the opportunity to turn a photo of Ryan Reynolds into a piece of unique Deadpool art is an exciting easter egg for fans of the character.
