‘Chattanooga Tourists,’ a mixed-media piece of artwork by Miki Boni
“This series, ‘Magical Realism,’ allowed me to experiment with different materials and juxtapose my painting with my photography. I was able to create images of another kind,” says artist Miki Boni. “Plucked from fragments of imagination and wrapped around the stuff of reality, this piece is meant to joyously introduce tourists to our city and bring a smile to our residents.”
Boni describes her artistic style as using subtle yet bold patterns. She creates images that look almost as if they were created with a high-power microscope, “probing the inner world of its subject until its molecular structure is revealed,” she says. “My imagination is my microscope, and the result is juxtaposed on its macro-sized counterpart.”
Boni has traveled extensively, gathering what she calls “image bank material.” In many cases, she purposely distorts her subjects for a surprise perspective of otherwise ordinary imagery.
