Artwork unveiled in celebration of the Solway Coast
The Solway Coast National Landscape team, together with Cumberland Council, unveiled the artwork, named ‘Seascape Vista,’ on November 26.
This is the result of a collaboration with Botcherby Community Centre and Carlisle-based artist Ameena Khatun.

Earlier this year, members of the community centre explored the National Landscape, drawing inspiration from the sands of Allonby Bay and the wetlands of Crosscanonby Carr.
The participants were said to be “blown away” by the wildlife, vistas, and sense of space the National Landscape provided.
Artist Ameena Khatun was commissioned to transform their sketches, words, and ideas into an artwork.

Ms Khatun said: “This is not just an artwork; it’s a conversation between city and sea.
“I’m thrilled to stitch together the colours, textures and memories the group discovered on the Solway.”
Cumberland councillor Anne Quilter, vibrant and healthy places portfolio holder, said: “It is wonderful to see the new relationships that have been developed through this art project, the collaborative effort and strong community focus have produced an art piece with true meaning.”

This project was part of the National Landscapes Association’s Nature Calling programme – the first national programme of new art commissions by the National Landscapes Association.
It was supported by Arts Council England and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
