AI-generated images of Dhoni’s sand sculpture falsely shared as child’s actual artwork
Claim: The images show sand sculptures of cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni created by a child.
Fact: The images are fake. All images have been created entirely using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool.
Hyderabad: A collage of four images which show a child creating sand sculptures of cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is viral on social media. The accompanying claim states that a school child crafted the sand art.
“A government school child made Dhoni’s statue from sand, if you find it beautiful then like it,” wrote a Threads user who shared the image.
NewsMeter found that the claim is false as the images have been created using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool.
We observed the image minutely and noticed several anomalies commonly found in AI-generated images.
In the first image, the sculpture has six fingers; in the second image, the boy in one hand has four complete fingers, the fifth looks half with a white covering and the sculpture has three legs. We could not find any anomaly in the third image but in the fourth image, the shape of the boy’s hand is uncommon.
Following our analysis, the images were subjected to AI-detecting tools. The results indicate that the pictures are 99 per cent and 98 per cent likely to be AI-generated, according to Hive Moderation and Hugging Face, respectively.
Hence, we conclude that both the sculptor and sculptures are not real in the viral images of artwork of Dhoni. They have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The claim is false.
