Evangelion Rewinds to Its Old-School ’90s Anime With 15 VHS Toy Collectibles
Evangelion was originally released on VHS tapes, and fans can now show their nostalgia for the original anime with a collection of special new charms.
Creamy Mami Is an Iconic Magical-Girl Anime Legend
Creamy Mami debuted in the 1983 Pierrot anime Creamy Mami, the Magical Angel. It was far from the first magical girl anime, although it was the studio’s first original work and, along with the original Macross anime, was also one of the first-ever multimedia anime franchises. Both shows utilized real-life singers/voice actors to portray fictional idols, with Creamy Mami voiced by Takako Ota. Both the franchise and the singer became massive success stories, with the classic Creamy Mami anime still available to stream via Tubi TV.
Meanwhile, the aesthetics of Creamy Mami and Macross are some of the old-school anime that are frequently used in illustrations for the Future Funk musical genre. Related to “Vaporwave” music, these tunes remix classic Japanese City Pop and Western R&B soundtracks into high-pitched, higher-energy bops. Given the nostalgic and borderline candy-coated vibes of these songs, Creamy Mami’s character fits in perfectly. Now, fans can purchase new clothes and similar gear to look just like the animated idol herself.
