WORK By Local Artists Is Showcased At Beacon Summer Display

BEACON Arts Centre is shining a light on grassroots artists with its third annual summer open exhibition.
The showcase gives visual artists from across Inverclyde the opportunity to exhibit their work to the public in stunning waterfront gallery space.
More than 100 new pieces are on display at the Greenock venue until 24 August, giving local artists a platform for their work.
The show was put together by the Beacon’s guest curator, Fraser Taylor, who is an honorary professor at the Glasgow School of Art and was previously Visiting Artist and Adjunct Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The Beacon’s year-round exhibition programme presents diverse work by local, national and international artists.
Upcoming displays include Printed and Woven Textiles by Suzie Cichy, Erin McQuarrie and Heather Shields, as well as work from HMP Greenock.
Its art space was previously praised as “world class” by acclaimed Scottish painter Michael Clarence, whose exhibition Depending on How You Paint Your Vegetables featured last year.

Fraser said: “Our summer open exhibition is a unique opportunity for anyone living in our communities to have their artwork exhibited, and is a critical part of our cultural offering in Inverclyde and Scotland as a whole.
“We are all proud of the works on display and delighted that we can play our part in helping artists reach a wider audience.
“I am always deeply impressed and humbled by the talent and diversity of art on display, and I look forward to sharing it with a wider audience over the summer.”
