Stephen Jones, artist’s hats at the Palais Galliera – Paris Select

The Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de Paris, is devoting an exhibition to Stephen Jones.
Revealing the work of this British designer, from his beginnings in the 1980s to his most recent collections.

Born near Liverpool in 1957, Stephen Jones trained at Saint Martin’s School of Art.
He opened his first store in London in 1980 and quickly became a leading figure in the “New Romantics” movement.
His early designs attracted the attention of influential music personalities such as Boy George, and marked his debut in the world of fashion.
His collaborations with prestigious houses such as Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and Louis Vuitton cemented his reputation.
Making him a key player behind the scenes of haute couture.

The influence of Paris on Stephen Jones

At the heart of the exhibition is the artist’s link with Paris.
His encounter with the French capital has profoundly influenced his artistic vision and approach to fashion.

The exhibition features nearly 400 works, including over 170 hats from the milliner’s personal archives.
As well as some forty complete silhouettes.
These pieces testify to Stephen Jones’ loyalty to the major fashion houses, in particular Christian Dior, with whom he has collaborated for over twenty-five years.
Stephen Jones has become the most “Frenchy” of English milliners, infusing Parisian fashion with a touch of daring creativity.
