New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, looking for associate artists
The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich is seeking applications for its Associate Artists Programme, which aims to support diverse talent and invest in the region’s creative ecology.
The 18-month scheme offers tailored mentorship to help artists reach professional goals, including developing new work, scaling up to midscale productions or securing funding.
Mae Munuo, a recent Associate Artist who began with the New Wolsey Youth Theatre at age 11, said: “Being an Associate Artist created a big shift in my creative practice.
“The New Wolsey Theatre has supported me as an actor, deviser and theatre maker.
“During my time as an associate artist I was taught how to write a successful ACE application, became an associate director, a director of my first touring production and a regular actor at my home theatre.”
Ms Munuo said the team supported her “with care, encouragement and patience” and described the placement as one of her “favourite experiences so far”.
Writer and producer Martha Loader, another former Associate Artist, described her placement as “a dream”.
Ms Loader said: “I grew up watching their shows and one of my first jobs was even flyering for them as a teenager.
“So it’s been a real joy to work with my home theatre this past year or so as an associate writer.”
Her attachment, funded by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and Film4, allowed her to become part of the team and develop her first musical with their support.
Applications close at 10am on Monday, September 15, with placements expected to begin between October and December.
Details are available on the New Wolsey Theatre website.
