Local artist’s exhibit, ‘A Tribute to My New Hometown,’ featured at Minden Opera House
HASTINGS, Neb. (News Channel Nebraska) – A small town in Central Nebraska is being highlighted through paintings and drawings thanks to a local artist.
“Obviously, I love art or I wouldn’t do it. But a lot of people say that art to them is therapeutic and relaxing I don’t really think of it as that,” said Majerus. “But it’s a way for me to have a sense of control over creating something. I don’t like it when thinks don’t go well in art.”
A studio art graduate from UNK, Taylor Majerus is many things. She’s a mother, instructor, community member, and artist.
Her most recent work features the place she has now become so familiar with. The 15 pieces of mixed media focus on the people, places and things found in Minden including the courthouse square on Christmas Eve, Pioneer Village and drawings of her kids.
“If people asked me where I’m from I used to say Bertrand, now I say Minden. I feel like I’m very much a part of it. Everybody and everything is very special to me,” said Majerus.
Majerus is the featured artist this month and next month at the Minden Opera House gallery. Her artwork titled “A Tribute to My New Hometown” will be on display.
For Majerus, Minden has become the place she calls home. A place where her family feels like they belong and a place that inspires her.
“How close people are and how friendly people are here,” said Majerus. “I don’t feel like my kids will ever not fit in, or that you know, my husband and I can’t find a place somewhere to fit inside the community.”
