Inverclyde artists showcase their talent at Greenock Art Club annual exhibition

September 8, 2025 2 Mins Read

Over 100 captivating artworks by Inverclyde artists are on display at the annual Greenock Art Club exhibition this month with new and old members showing off their talents.

The walls of the club’s Stables Studios space on Broomberry drive in Gourock have been completely covered in paintings of all shapes and sizes as part of the display.

One artist who has their work on display is Svitlana Zhukevych-Stosha, an animation design student from Ukraine, who moved to Inverclyde in 2023.

Greenock Art Club will be holding its annual exhibition on the weekend of September 13. (Image: George Munro) Svitlana has recently started her course at the University of the West of Scotland and says it is nice to work on other projects out with her studies.

“I joined the club because even though I really enjoy digital art, I missed painting and using traditional materials,” she said.

“I think traditional drawings and art is really important to teach younger artists because it broadens your talents.”

She added: “I was a member of an art club in Ukraine but since the war started I haven’t been making as much art, but I decided I need to keep making art here too.

“My painting is not for sale because I wanted to submit it to feel like a part of the club and show off my work.

“The community here is very nice and welcoming, and I hope I can show off more work in the future.”

Catherine Soulier, trustee of Greenock Art Club, has been a member for over 20 years and says it is a great place for local artists to be creative and meet others with a similar passion.

She said: “Everybody has their own style and the standard of work every year is really excellent.

“There is something on show for everyone with a range of mediums used and subject matters.

“There are also lots of Scottish scenes and local places painted which always go down a treat with visitors.”

The club was founded in 1877 with some of its notable members James Watt and 1930’s painter Alec Gault.
