Gourock exhibition showcases Palestinian artists’ work

August 13, 2025 2 Mins Read

Gaza Remains The Story features artworks, photographs and information panels, all from the Palestine Museum in Birzeit, West Bank.

The display in Medinelli’s pop-up shop in Kempock Street was opened on Tuesday night by former Westminster MP Dr Philippa Whitford, who has strong links to Gaza and the West Bank through her work as a breast cancer surgeon.

Mary McGlashan, from the Group for Gaza, said: “There’s been a steady stream of visitors.

“We have a visitors book and people are coming from all over. People are coming in off the street to have a look, we’re delighted by the response.”

The images were printed locally with a team of volunteers framing and mounting the exhibits.

Mary said it is the first time the exhibition has been held in Scotland and other areas are keen to follow.

She said: “We’ve had a few inquiries from different places to take the exhibition to different parts of the country, we had inquiries from Paisley, Edinburgh and Kirkcudbright.

“We hoped that this would happen, that it would go on tour around the country.

“We are displaying work from around 30 different artists. It’s a great platform, especially for artists who are still in the West Bank, it’s about getting their art out there.

“We are the first place in Scotland to do this, we applied to the Palestinian Museum to ask if this could be done.

“It has been a long process, it was printed locally and it was framed then mounted by a team of volunteers on Sunday night.

As well as artwork there is also a sale of West Bank pottery from Olive Tree Scotland.

The exhibition runs every day between 10am and 5pm until Sunday (August 17).
