Whether you like rap, post-punk, electro, krautrock or psych-folk, Le Monde‘s music team is here to help you navigate this dense lineup.
The melancholy of Asfar Shamsi, between rap and pop
Music fans discovered Asfar Shamsi in March during her “Planète Rap” appearance on Skyrock radio. Invited by Belgian rapper Youssef Swatt, Shamsi performed her track “2006” live, which was written for the occasion. The song is packed with generational references, such as “la France de Mélanie” (a reference to singer Diams) and David Trezeguet’s infamous missed penalty in the World Cup final. “2006, I cried for a penalty, 20 years later I have other kinds of problems,” she sings over a polished, melancholy pop production. Her new single, “La Crise,” seems to confirm the talent of this 27-year-old from Strasbourg for capturing the struggles of a generation beset by economic crises and climate change.
