Artists make a splash with a creative day of activity at Royal Albert Wharf

April 4, 2024 2 Mins Read

Bow Arts and Art in the Docks are opening the doors to the public for a family-friendly day of activities to celebrate the talent, creativity, and tight knit community at Royal Albert Wharf this April.

Visitors are invited to step inside Bow Arts’ 40 artist studios at Royal Albert Wharf. With talented artists working across mediums from ceramics, photography, footwear and more, the event is a chance for visitors to meet the artists in the studios and get curious about the artwork being created in the neighbourhood of The Royal Docks.

A highlight of the day will be the Shoalmates Community Parade, produced and delivered by community arts organisation Art in the Docks, and supported by The Royal Docks Trust. Beginning at 2pm, the parade will walk around the dock with fish puppets made by several hundred Newham residents, a spectacle that celebrates individuality at the same time as collective belonging. Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham, will be there to join in the fun too.

Alongside the open studios, The Place I Call Home exhibition will be on display in the Art in the Docks gallery. Supported by Newham Council’s Enrichment fund, the exhibition will showcase artwork from a programme of family-oriented workshops and events for Newham residents, with contributors ranging from pre-school children to people in their 90s.

Refreshments will be available from local plant-based community cafe, the Well Bean Co, and family-owned Parsee restaurant Cafe Spice Namaste will be open on the day offering a barbeque masterclass from 10:30-3pm.

Alongside the Open Studios and Parade events, Pump House Square will be open, featuring artist stalls selling unique and handcrafted works from studio artists.
