Sixth Form pupils from Ipswich put their artwork on display in a bid to support the future of their school – raising over £18,000.
More than 60 students from One Sixth Form were invited by Ellisons Solicitors to produce work for its Painting For Change initiative under a theme of connections.
The legal firm donated large canvases to the artists, with 18 people’s work being selected for an exhibition at Ipswich Town Hall last Tuesday.
Artwork aimed to explore a number of topics, including the connections between traditional and contemporary art; work which aimed to create a ‘dream-like’ experience; pollution; connections in music; relationships with pets; and the beauty of the Suffolk Punch breed of horse and its significance within conservation efforts.
The work, sponsored by corporate partners, raised £18,000, which will go towards an outdoor learning centre for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Katie Bennett, one of the artists whose work went on display, said she was proud to have put her painting out there.
She said: “My oil painting uses light to explore the interconnectedness of people.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to create art that represents my own ideal connections.
“Painting for Change’ not only gave me the space to express my thoughts on our society but also allowed me to support my college with my talent.”
The event was one of several to mark Ellisons’ 260th anniversary.
It was attended by Cllr Elango Elavalakan, mayor of Ipswich, alongside staff from Ellisons, parents and sponsors.

Guy Longhurst, managing partner of Ellisons, said the firm always believed in supporting its local community and developing young talent throughout its more than two centuries in business.
He said: “We are grateful to the team at One Sixth Form College for providing us with the opportunity to experience the exceptional talent of the art students who took part in our fundraising initiative.
“We are also thankful for the sponsors who donated generously to such a good cause.”
Jake Robson, principal for One Sixth Form, said providing students with the opportunity to get creative and showcase their artwork, alongside networking with corporate sponsors, was something that could not be done in the classroom.
He added: “It was really special to see our students receive the recognition they deserve and have the chance to directly support the school’s development.
“The funds raised will really go a long way in providing opportunities for students with special needs through our supported learning department.
“A massive thank you to Ellisons Solicitors for their hard work and all the sponsors involved.”
